Art vs. Job
Many full-time magicians will proudly tell you they are living their passion. Yet if you were to watch their shows, it's clear many of them are just in it for the money.
A lack of originality plagues many full-time magicians, making each one a carbon copy of the others. This isn’t the case with all magicians, but the ones who are just in it for the money inadvertently hurt the real artists.
I have seen a number of part-time magicians who are far better artists than their full-time colleagues. Maybe money has something to do with it. Because the part-time magicians don't have to worry about making money with their art, they are free to be more artistic and creative.
Which do you value more: art or money? I feel like too many performers fool themselves with their answer.
