How punishing failure hurts artists

When I was younger, I was a terrible magician. I knew how bad I was. But I would tell myself that, if I just stick with magic and continue to practice and improve, I won’t stay bad forever. I still have a long way to go, but I’ve definitely come far! It was in my failures that I learned the greatest lessons, and it’s how I continue to learn. Unfortunately, in today’s culture, failure is looked down upon and those who fail are punished. This is one of the worst things we can do for creativity.

A Cultural Change

Artists imitate entrepreneurs. We see a problem (a vision of the art inside of our heads that isn’t yet in the real world) and devise a solution (bringing that vision into the real world through an artistic discipline). What entrepreneurs should do is imitate artists; deliberately pursuing creativity and practicing it.

They’re both so similar, and can learn a lot from one another.
